About
Mission Statement
Penguin Review seeks to provide better opportunities for students to publish and exhibit creative works of fiction, poetry, non-fiction, screenwriting and art. It is our mission - and also, we feel, our duty - to expose those materials widely to the campus, in order to help the talented students at Youngstown State University become more well known.
Penguin Review responds to the need of a literary journal focused solely on the work of undergraduate artists and writers. We publish an annual print journal that celebrates the efforts and artistic integrity of students Youngstown State University.
Our advisor is Dr. Steven Reese of YSU's English Department staff.
History
Our review was established in 1964 after the decline of a former literary magazine, Horizon. It has since been run by dedicated staff and students at Youngstown State University.
Though we currently only accept submissions from students who attend or are registered at Youngstown State University for an undergraduate degree (of any major), we have previously been open to submissions from anyone. Many of YSU's current professors and past alumni have been celebrated and published in previous editions.
